At the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) in Barcelona, the OIC team presented itself for the first time with its own booth and represented Bielefeld as the first Open Innovation City. A trip that was worthwhile.

The SCEWC is one of the most important and largest events on the subject of cities, urban development and urban innovation. For the eleventh time, the fair will be held in the Catalan capital - for the first time with the participation of Open Innovation City. In total, more than 700 cities from five continents will exhibit their solutions for the city of the future.

Within the framework of the NRW.Global Business stand, the OIC team had very valuable conversations over three days, made numerous new contacts and networked extremely well! It was exciting to see which smart city solutions are already being used in other cities, how open source ideas are being taken further, and what impetus is being given in the areas of sustainability, mobility or governance. But despite all the national exchange, the international exchange was also on the agenda. On the Germany Trade & Invest stage, Henning Duderstadt conducted a panel on "Open Innovation Cities - smart cities' nexts chapter?!" together with Markku Niemi (Tampere, Finland), Kathrin Obernhumer (Innovation Capital Linz) and Fabian Pasimeni (Phoenix Contact) in front of an international audience.

All in all, it was an all-around successful trip that resulted in many new cooperation opportunities! Now it is time to continue the talks and work out opportunities that will continue to establish Bielefeld as a city of innovation.
