Visit among friends - Indonesian delegation visits the Bielefeld ecosystem

An Indonesian delegation from Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) was invited by the Vice-Rector for Research and Development at the University of Applied Sciences for SMEs (FHM), Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c.. Volker Wittberg, gained insights into the Bielefeld innovation ecosystem on May 23, 2022. The group, consisting of 13 students and five professors, visited the FHM, the startup incubator Founders Foundation, the co-working space Pioneers Club, and the Open Innovation City project.

Led by Amarria Dila Sari, lecturer of the Industrial Engineering Department and head of IBISMA- Business Incubator of UII, the students got a guided tour of the Innovation Office at the Old Market and a welcome by the OIC leaders Ingo Ballschmieter and Henning Duderstadt, through which the most important questions about the project were answered: What are the benefits of an Open Innovation City? How can the urban society benefit from open innovation processes and how is such a concept transferable to other cities?

This was followed by a visit to the Pioneers Club, the newly opened Harms Markt and the premises of the FHM, until the Innovation Journey came to a close with a visit to the Founders Foundation for the speaker event "Talking About Innovation" by Open Innovation City, where they took part in the presentation on the work of the future, which was translated simultaneously into English. Thereby, the realization matured that new forms of work (teleworking, etc.) are somewhat more advanced in Germany or Europe than in Indonesia due to the existing infrastructure.

Bielefeld was one of several stops of the Indonesian delegation during their trip through Europe (France, Netherlands, Austria and Germany). The UII has maintained a partnership relationship with the FHM for a long time. Therefore the exchange in Bielefeld was obvious. During the nine-day trip, the delegation's main objective is to gain practical knowledge about innovation, entrepreneurship and information technology, as well as to promote the international cooperation of the UII.

The visit of the Indonesian delegation enabled an interesting and friendly exchange, which hopefully will be continued soon.
